“it’s like a monet… except weirder.”- the unsolicited opinion of a stranger
intricately hand-placed sequins refreshes old art into something creatively chaotic and fierce.
i’m truly not sure what made my brain think of this weird medium that I unknowingly made up, but I would guess it’s a combination of the following things - never finding my niche in the art world, desperately needing a creative outlet after surviving the pandemic raising two smalls, and always finding really cool art while thrifting that someone didn’t want anymore. oh, add my love for sparkles and loving to fuck things up a bit, and bold gold & old was born.

there’s SO MANY reasons why i love doing this
-
life is chaos in every single way. i try my best to navigate by noticing the small moments of beauty in the everyday. the act of hand-placing small sequins and CREATING with my hands shoots me into another dimension that is filled with a quiet calm void and wildly weird planets that are meant for me.
-
i find my work everywhere - the thrift store, estate sales, the side of the road, second hand shops, yard sales, and sometimes even the trash! all pieces are no longer wanted by someone and found by me. taking something old that already exists and saving it from a landfill by breathing a new life into it with shiny, kitschy gives me so much joy!
i also always try and use second-hand materials! vintage sequins are sooooo much more interesting than modern ones. i also sometimes incorporate vintage trims, ribbons, gems, beads, bits n bobs, and whatever other ephemera i may come across 😊
-
these pieces are stunningly blinding in the sun and subtly shimmer in low light. I really can’t decide which i love more!
also - i need to apologize. it is almost impossible to capture the sparkle in a photo and i am admittedly absolutely awful at photographing my work, so i hope you can see them irl. i’m sorry!!!!!!!!
-
most of the pieces i work on have already lived a full life, but to reinvigorate them with a fun and unexpected twist shakes off the years of dust they’ve collected and allows them to become something kitschy and fun, a little weird, and breathtakingly beautiful again.
-
those who get it, GET IT. there’s a look i sometimes get to catch in person when someone first sees my work for the first time. their faces start to glow. it’s similiar to how i feel when i finish a baby and let it go into the world. i don’t know how else to describe it, but it’s magic. somehow, my art attracts the kindest, sweetest, most wonderful people that have been put in my life because of this weird thing that i do. i’ll take both of those things forever & ever & ever, please.
there’s also this thing that happens where once people look at my sequin art, they now see old art out and about and think about it sequined. sorry (not sorry) about that… my disease may have infected you.
-
i’m literally the only person in the world that does this (i haven’t actually checked but i’ve never seen it before lol). when i was little i would say that i wanted to be an artist when i grew up, but when i grew up i realized i needed to make money? which sucks. well, now i’m older than ever, my life has taken me in many different directions, and i’ve now chosen to call myself an artist & create. 💗
let me help by answering questions i know you have
how long does it take?approximately one million years.
literally, EVERYwhere.
where do you find the art?you must have a lot of patience...?this has a question mark at the end, but it’s not a question. but yeah, i guess so?
